The five things that come up most with the downloaded version — a key that will not activate, moving to another Mac, getting back something you cleaned, missing categories and updates. The form at the bottom reaches a person.

This page is for the version downloaded from this site. Refresh, the Mac App Store version, has its own support page.

My licence key is not accepted

The key is in your receipt from Lemon Squeezy, who sell the licence. OpenSettings → Licence, paste it in and press Activate. Paste the whole key, with its dashes, and nothing either side of it.

A key is tied to the product it was bought for, so a key for the yearly subscription will not activate as a one-time licence or the other way round. If it still refuses, send the key with the form below — it is safe to include, and it is the fastest thing for us to check.

Moving to another Mac

On the Mac you are leaving, open Settings → Licence and press Remove from this Mac. That frees the activation, so the key can be used on the new one. If it cannot reach Lemon Squeezy at the time, the app says so and the activation stays counted — activating on the same Mac again does not cost a second one.

Something I cleaned, I want back

Your own files go to the Trash, so open it in the Dock and choosePut Back. The app never empties the Trash on its own, because the Trash is the undo for everything it moves there. Caches and build data are deleted rather than trashed: the apps that made them rebuild them on their own, which is what makes them safe to remove.

Categories show nothing, or far less than expected

The app needs Full Disk Access to see most of what it reports on. Grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access. You can withdraw it at any time and the app keeps working, with less to show you.

Updates

The app asks downloads.refreshyourmac.com whether a newer version exists, and nothing is downloaded or installed without you saying yes. You can turn the check off in Settings. What it sends, and the only other call the app makes, are listed onprivacy.

Reporting a problem

Three things make a report answerable on the first reply: the app's version(RefreshYourMac → About RefreshYourMac), your macOS version (Apple menu → About This Mac), and what you did, what you expected and what the app showed instead. A screenshot is worth more than all three, and the form takes one. macOS 15 or later is what the app is built against, so do say if you are on something older.

We reply by email, usually within two working days. What you send is used only to answer you; see privacy.
